you know, i never even thought of doing that until a local friend asked after it happened. it never crossed my mind that somethign like this could happen. in my opinion, shop #1 made the mistake and everything snowballed. when i got the new clutch put in, the engagement was pretty high, but the firmness didn't last long... it went back to be being kinda spongy. i'm not too familiar with the parts of a clutch, but if a pilot bushing is part of the tranny, then i think they left the old one in.
